Before we get to EOFY, acknowledging the positives from the last twelve months is always a good place to start, if we acknowledge what worked well, hopefully this will create a propensity to repeat it. However, if you are like most entrepreneurs, you’re probably have been experiencing one or more of five common frustrations, since last July.
Lack of control: Late nights and weekends, often you don’t have enough control over your time. Instead of controlling the business, the business seems to be controlling you.
People: For many of my clients, frustration with employees, customers, vendors, or partners is common. Whether they don’t seem to listen, understand or the lack of follow through with their actions. It seems at times that no one is truly engaged or on the same page.
Profit: There seems to be a steady stream of income but there’s never anything left over in the bank. Simply put, there’s not enough of it.
The ceiling: Realising that the business has reached the limits. No matter what you do, you can’t seem to break through and get to the next level. You feel overwhelmed and unsure of what to do next. This can be at organisational, divisional or personal level, either way, anyone of these will arrest the growth of your business.
Nothing works: You’ve implemented various strategies and remedies. None have worked for long, and as a result, your staff has become numb to new initiatives. You’re spinning your wheels, and you need traction to move again.
Granted, a small minority of entrepreneurs and business owners do not suffer from these frustrations. They run their businesses using core disciplines that organise the many facets of their business into a well-oiled machine. Some of these owners are naturals who don’t even realise they’re doing anything special. However, for most of us, we aren’t so lucky.
